A little inside knowledge for those that like to plan ahead.
Orhaniye – Perfect Sailing base. Hotel with swimming pool, poolside bar and restaurant. ATM, car hire, onsite shop, local village market for fresh fruit and vegetables every Saturday. Good for some sightseeing visit the local waterfall, carpet factory, or see the scenery from horse back with local riding stables 15 minutes away.
Selimiye – Medium size village with a variety of shops, restaurants and small grocery markets. Market day for fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing and more, is Wednesday. Tie up on the village jetty or onto one of the restaurant jetties. Village is open all year round but some restaurants are seasonal April to end October.
Sailors Paradise - A large bay with family run restaurant that is not accessible by road. Anchor off or tie to the restaurant jetty stern to with lazylines. The restaurant offers an evening buffet with hot and cold starters and a choice of main dishes cooked to order and fresh bread is cooked daily. Open from mid April to first week in November.
Dirsek – another large bay not accessible by road, one restaurant. Anchor off of tie to the restaurant jetty stern to with lazylines. Take a walk on the trekking paths into the hills for stunning views of the Greek island of Symi. Open beginning of April to end October
Bencik a secluded inlet with no shops, no restaurant, great place to relax at anchor for a lunchtime stop or for a ‘get away from it all’ overnight stay if you’re eating onboard.
Bozburun. Enter the harbour and tie up stern to outside one of the many shops and restaurants in this delightful large village. With an ATM, small grocery markets, a butcher, baker, but alas, no candlestick maker that we’re aware of, plenty of places to stock up if you forgot something or didn’t take advantage of our free provisioning service.
Sogut – crystal clear water, a big strong jetty with water, electric and lazylines the Octopus restaurant infamous among regular charter holiday guests as having fabulous food and excellent toilet and shower facilities. An alternative or for a change if you’ve visited before, try Captains Table a smaller jetty but an equally warm welcome and lovely food, you’ll find this delightful restaurant in the most northern point of Sogut bay, fresh water and electricity are available and toilets and showers in the restaurant building. Whilst sitting having a sundowner in your cockpit look out for dolphins on the far side of the bay, they often come in around dusk.
Bozu Kale – only accessible by sea this lovely bay has three restaurants and they all bring in their supplies by boat. Bozu Kale means unfinished castle and you can see the ruins on the port side, high on the hill as you enter the bay. Once you’ve secured your yacht on one of the jetties or dropped your anchor, head up the hill to explore the ruins. Make sure you take your camera. Serce Limani – just along from Bozu Kale this almost hidden cut in the cliff face opens out to a delightful bay full of little fishing boats and bright orange mooring buoys for Captain Nemo’s farm restaurant. The bay is too shallow to get yachts to the very far end, so you can either take your own dinghy ashore or one of the restaurant staff will happily come and fetch your party and row you ashore and then back again whenever you are ready, free of charge. If you are of a mind to take a walk past the restaurant and into the countryside you will find yourself in the heart of farming land with lots of terraced hillsides and all sorts of livestock running free over the hills and fields. The road that you’ll be walking on is around 10km long and the livestock are held in by a gate hence they can move freely around. A great setting.
Ciftlik Limani – this bay has many good restaurants and is popular with charter yachts coming out of Marmaris as a first or last stop on their sailing holiday. The wooden jetties have lazy lines and there is a beach area. Rafet Baba or Mehmets Place restaurants are our favourites here, family run with helpful staff.
Gerbekse – We love this little bay. Great for snorkelling or head ashore and go see the Byzantine ruins or even better do both. Ideal lunchtime stop, or overnight at the sheltered western end. Maybe do lunch then head round to Ciftlik or Kumlubuku. Technically in Marmaris bay, the restaurant boasts a Chinese cook offering a Peking duck speciality. Watersports are available in this bay and the jetty has good showers, toilets, water and electricity.
